Grades of mild steel tubing are specified by standards like BS EN10025 (e.g. S235, S275, S355) or ATSM (e.g. A53) and are defined by their yield strength and intended applications. Common grades include S275 for general fabrication, S355 for high-stretch applications and ASTM A53 for general purpose and structural use.
ERW tube is most commonly used for mild steel tubing in mandrel bending and general product manufacture. Produced by an electro resistance welded manufacturing process, it is manufactured in accordance with BS 6323, or the European specification EN 10305-3 E220.
CDS (cold drawn seamless) – without welded seams, this is widely used for roll cages, frames and other high strength applications. Produced to EN10305-4 E235+N, it is generally specified where high tensile strength or greater resistance to internal pressure is required.
CHS (circular hollow section tube) – one of the most versatile building materials in the construction industry, it is available in a comprehensive selection of sizes and grades to suit requirements.
